Left Connecticut and headed North towards Bar Harbor, more then glad to hopefully leave the rain behind. We had a nice easy ride up the interstates/turnpikes, dropped a few bucks at the toll booths and filled up at $3.85/gal. We arrived at our site at Patton pond campground around 4 pm, setup our site logged onto the internet for daily email and relaxed.
Memorial Day weekend was packed but it was fun watching the kids have fun, campfires and fishing on the lake and family BBQ. I was sick so we just rested and waited until th holiday was over before venturing out.
Tuesday we went into Bar Harbor and shopped and ate lunch. After several days of driving the Maine coast I think Bar Harbor itself is overated, especially the food and prices, just another tourist trap!
Wednesday we entered Acadia National Park. While it was nice and had some diversity I just could not get over the fact that on the West coast if you drive the Oregon coast and then go to Yellowstone NP you get so much more I did, however, really enjoy Cadillac mountain and could imagine what sunrise would have been like (wasn't getting up and out of the rig at 4 a.m. though). I had heard so much about this place from the East coast crowd tht I really wanted to see what it had but other then a pleasant coastal drive and alot of bike trails I just did not see it. It was beautiful, just not glorious! I liked the other harbors in the park and Little Hunter's beach with it's colored polished stones and of course, Bass Harbor lighthouse.
The next day we ventured South to Rockland and saw two lighthouses and the Lighthouse Museum. We had a tasty lunch at the Compass room and a rather nice ride along highway #1. Someday we would like to do the rest of the coastline that we missed as there are more lighthouses and lobster rolls to see and eat:)
